MicroTilt's listing is dominated by two formats most unions do not spread: bomb pots and double board. Both do the same thing by different means — they remove the fold from poker, and a game where nobody folds preflop plays nothing like the game you are used to.
In a bomb pot there is no preflop betting at all. Every player at the table antes an agreed amount and the flop is dealt immediately, so a hand that would normally end with one raise and five folds instead goes to a flop eight-handed. Hand values collapse: top pair is close to worthless multiway, and the hands that win are the ones that make nutted draws and nutted made hands. Playing a bomb pot like a normal hand is the standard way to lose money in one.
Double board deals two complete boards for a single pot, with the pot split between the best hand on each. It roughly doubles the number of ways a hand can win and, crucially, compresses equities — the gap between the best hand and a mediocre one narrows, because a holding that misses one board can still take half on the other. That reduces the edge a strong player has per hand and raises variance for everyone.
Both formats exist because they are fun and because they generate action, which is also the honest reason a club advertises them. If your edge comes from folding more than your opponents, these formats take that edge away.
